I Wish This Was: Community Project To Gauge Opinion Of Local People
David Lowe | Jul 23, 2012
I Wish This Was was started by Candy Chang in New Orleans in November 2010. The project was inspired by the numerous vacant storefronts in the city and the lack of a medium for local communities to voice their opinions. Combining street art and urban planning, Candy created blank stickers that say “I wish this was….”. The locals and businesses had to fill in the blanks with a marker she had left next to the notes. And then she waited…
Over time, the stickers became filled with requests like “a grocery store”, “a butcher’s shop”, “a community park” and “the place I wish I had my first kiss!”. The stickers are available for international purchase online. The vinyl material ensures that future business owners can easily remove them.
